Construction Simulations

(Accounting and Financial Management)

“Construction Accounting and Financial Management is not a course about preparing accounting reports. It is a course about understanding why a construction company’s financial position changes and deciding what management should do next.”

Fundamentals of construction accounting principles to include income recognition, job cost control, cash flow analysis and associated cost reports.

This course will use the simulation called Construction Industry Simulation (COINS) to create focus on the subject of the class.  It will also help students and faculty navigate COINS.  Online lectures, reading assignments, assignments will all relate to COINS as the class participates using the simulation, each being a member of a team that is also a construction firm with full financial documents and the ability to procure work, starting with the bid process and moving to be able to negotiate work.  The team will build as it grows, hiring personnel and developing mission statement and core value statements.

COINS is a dynamic, decision-driven simulation in which student teams operate construction firms within a competitive marketplace. Unlike traditional case studies, which often follow linear and predetermined paths, the simulation allows for multiple outcomes based on student decision-making, thereby fostering continuous problem solving and critical thinking.
